The Hawthorne Plaza presents seven popular music videos that feature the same abandoned mall. Using three projectors, the architecture of the shopping centre is reconstructed through its mediated image. Videos bleed into one another, calling attention to the common infrastructure between them. These videos emerge from the same industry and location, but also the same cultural framework. Musicians in The Hawthorne Plaza offer a bleak, pessimistic vision of life. In the timespace of an empty mall, America is a shell. Lone figures wander through endless combinations of blue and grey interior space, meditating on the failures of capitalism, technology, and youth.
